Yippee!
The time has come again.  On Friday I will be heading down to Southampton for probably the best Inset in the year.

Last year was my frst visit, but I came away so invigorated and full of ideas.  This year I have the huge honour of presenting.

I am looking forward to meeting up with the people who have generously shared ideas via twitter and have helped me to renew my love of teaching langauges.

I have already been spoilt for choice over the range of sessions available, from "A Tweet a day.." to "Animation Techniques with iPads".

The Show and Tell on Saturday evening looks like it will be fun too.

AQA Traffic Lights

I have spent some time with pupils who would like to have a reference point of everything (!) they need to know for the Spanish GCSE.

I have therefore created this document to allow them to traffic light their learning and to allow me to focus the revision session more effectively before the exams.

I am hoping they will be able to work through this in a couple of minutes to allow me to create a revision task list from the exam papers.

If you would like a copy of this document in full please contact me via Twitter

French Word Banquet

 After struggling with vocabulary and structure of work at KS4. I decided to use a cheap roll of paper for pupils to write all the words they know about Free time & Media. I then split the class into 4 groups. I decided to use paper tablecloths to brainstorm key vocabulary for different areas of a topic.

We then used paper plates to collect any useful words to be used. The pupils found this really good fun. It provoked good discussion about which words were better than others.
 It was a nice way of checking retention of vocabulary. They were not able to use their books. I have a couple of photos of their plates which were organised any way they wanted.  They are not perfect, but I think they began to understand what was needed.
 This would be a useful activity before the reading and listening exams as they would be looking and listening to lots of vocabulary.

@Joedale  Keynote Speech.
Looking at the value of technology in the languges clssroom. Lovely presentation reminding us of #pencilchat.

Carol Nichol @carolenicoll317

Singing songs triggers memory and pupils are able to speak using full sentences.
We always remember the words to the old songs. Pupils will remember these phrases and will be able to sing answers to the the key questions.

Use carol's website to access ppt and other downloads.
http://www.language-factory.co.uk/
Lots available on iTunes.

It's important that you choose a funky song. You can then mix and match the phrases from different songs. Examples:
The Adams family: j'ai les cheveux noirs

Stuart Gorse @gorsey

Using stop motion. Use happy land characters. Take about 250 photos for about 30seconds worth of animation. Add audio over the top.
Use things in the background that catch your attention. Eg gnome being run over by a car.

All websites to check out when using animations.

Green day's good riddance
Quelles sont les meilleures vacances de ta vie?

Use closed captions

Mix audio and voice. Use sound recorder or audacity to record voice. Add to the tracks.
Use windows media player to produce final product.

Christmas Mystery

I have attached here a copy of a mystery that I designed last year to introduce a very low ability group to Los Reyes Magos. It is not a true mystery in that there is an answer, however it does provide some discussion. We had spent several weeks working with tengo / tiene and soy / es, so there is a lot of emphasis on these.

I hope you will be able to use this.

MFL resources Ski slope

I first heard about this on MFLresources before the summer holidays. I thought I'd give it go in September. It was so good I have done it with all my GCSE and Year 9 classes. I have also done it for an observation that went well.

I would like to thank Vincent at MFLresources for this fabulous idea, and have attached a photo of one the pupil books to give an idea of how it looks.

snowball = error
tree = accurate
penguin = good
penguin on skis = fab.

I began by giving out very few trees to encourage good accuracy, then there seemed to be a fight over who would get the first penguin.

To be honest the pupils seemed to really want to see my pathetic attempts at drawing a penguin on skis rather than wanting it for its own sake.

Really positive lesson.

Christmas Taxegdo

I saw a lovely one of these from @wizendcrone in French and it inspired me to do one in Spanish.

I think I'm going to use it to start some Christmas Poems with Year 8 and as revision for GCSE.
